Job Description: Provide management of department's work to maintain and improve planted materials in beds, building entrances, and other settings. Manages the installation and maintenance of campus irrigation systems. Manages concrete and asphalt repairs and installation services on campus. Manages contract services. Manages all aspects of tree care on the LSU campus and off-site properties as directed. Manages the LSU Live Oak Endowment program.
Job Responsibilities Oversee estimating, planning, planting, and maintenance on all annual and ornamental bedding areas on campus. Purchase supplies, maintain records, provide monthly reports on conditions, etc. Interface with Grounds Manager for proper maintenance and support as necessary. Oversee all greenhouse planning, purchasing, planting, and propagation work. Oversee all container yard activities to include estimating, planning, purchasing, planting, propagation, and maintenance of trees and woody ornamentals. (35%) Directs day to day activities of the tree crew as well as supplemental labor engaged in pruning, hazard mitigation, safety related concerns such as lighting and camera clearance, and all tree contract management. Manage the LSU Live Oak Endowment program to include, but not be limited to, plaque accuracy, cleaning, and replacement, tree health and care prescription and follow up, install cabling, bracing, and lightning protection as needed, storm preparation and planning, insect & disease & pesticide reaction protocol for the live oaks. Manage a computerized data base for tree health. Perform budgetary tracking and projection and justification for funding. Engage in all communication and educational opportunities as the university liaison for tree care. (35%) Manage concrete and asphalt repair and installation to include estimating, planning, excavation permits, scheduling, material procurement, record keeping, client contact, etc. (20%) Provide managerial oversight of departmental crews in the absence of other managers and/or the Assistant Director. Perform employee time keeping, safety meetings, training, performance reviews, discipline, etc. as needed. Perform other tasks as directed. (10%)
Additional Information This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04. This position is considered emergency essential and may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18. This position regularly engages in financial matters including handling credit cards, cash, grant funds, or other university funds, and must undergo a credit check per FASOP HR-04. This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required.

Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Horticulture with 5 or more years of experience at a manager level

Experience with meeting deadlines and facilitating meetings between maintenance trades. Experience in directing contractors and vendors. Good computer skills Preferred Certifications/Licenses Aquatics Pest Control Cat 5A Right-Away & Industrial Pest Control Cat 6 ISA & State Arborist Licenses
