Reference #: 4742230 THE POSITION The Department of Transportation is on the lookout for a Survey Technician to join their team. This role involves being an integral part of a survey crew, where you'll engage in sophisticated technical tasks that necessitate the use of both manual and electronic tools to gather essential surveying data. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will engage in technical tasks essential for accurately determining the precise locations of points and areas in accordance with the engineering requirements set forth by various units within the District. You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of both advanced and standard surveying instruments, which encompass a range of tools such as electronic total stations, automatic and digital levels, data collectors, laptops, GPS devices, and any additional equipment necessary for the effective performance, recording, and processing of survey data. You will be expected to take precise measurements, including but not limited to instrument height, backsight height, pipe dimensions, and pipe inverts, ensuring accuracy within one hundredth of a foot, regardless of whether corrective lenses are used. Additionally, you will assist the Transportation Surveyor Technician Supervisor in the preparation of survey notes and sketches, perform algebraic and trigonometric calculations, and verify computations completed by others. In the absence of the Supervisor, you may assume the role of party chief, overseeing assistants during routine surveys. You will actively participate in succession planning by developing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with your supervisor. Together, you will engage in knowledge management and transfer by identifying critical job elements and sharing both explicit and tacit technical knowledge with colleagues. When directed, you will work in the District Office under the supervision of the Transportation Survey Technician Supervisor, handling various office tasks such as filing survey records, conducting deed and plan research, and editing and processing electronic field data using the CADD system. Attendance at meetings and training sessions will be required to stay updated on current surveying techniques and the use of new equipment. Furthermore, you will be responsible for measuring lines, topography, and cross-sections in the field. You will also operate light trucks, corps buses, or pool vehicles for transportation purposes. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, vendor controlled schedule Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bridgeville. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience as an Engineering Technician; or Three years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments; or One year of experience as a member of a survey corpswhich included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
